Memorials, Tributes and Biographies
Getting Started
1. Choose
Choosing the best pictures and materials from a lifetime’s collection of memorabilia can be a daunting task that will require lots of organization. Don’t just think photographs: certificates, diplomas, newspaper and magazine articles, even old home movies will all enhance your tribute.
Select a workspace you can dedicate to gathering material and begin the task of sorting through photographs. We all often have multiple pictures of one event, and you need to select the ONE picture that best shows the person and/or event. Framed pictures and documents can be delivered to the studio for scanning, but we ask that you remove the frames for better quality if the material is not delicate. Paintings, needlework, quilts, even handmade furniture can be digitally captured either at their location or in our studio.
This whole process will take time, so choose a space you can keep your materials undisturbed.
2. Sort
After selecting the best materials, we suggest you begin by organizing in chronological order. Start with early photographs, birth certificates, school report cards etc., and arrange forward to the present. You’ll come across groups of memorabilia that will work better in their own little chronological sequences: career, job, education, home ownership, vacations, travel, children, grandchildren….you get the picture! Think about enhancing these sequences with a special music theme.
3. Label
Label and number your material on the back with either a pencil or post-it notes. Don’t use ink! Make notations for possible titles, music or sound effects. We can also “zoom” in on people or objects, so note if that would be appropriate.
